The Employment Permit System – Test of Proficiency in Korean (EPS-TOPIK) formerly the Korean Language Test (KLT)

The first Korean Language Test or KLT was included in the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Ministry of Labor of Korea on April 23, 2004. Under the MOU, the KLT shall be implemented starting August 17, 2005 for those who want to work in Korea under the Employment Permit System (EPS). The sectors that is open for Filipino workers under the Korea EPS is manufacturing. Today, KLT is now called EPS – Test of Proficiency in Korean or EPS-TOPIK. The test is being used as an objective selection criteria for foreign job seekers in South Korea.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) is the authorized agency of DOLE to implement the EPS-TOPIK in the Philippines in cooperation with the Human Resources Development Service of Korea or HRD Korea.

  • Male or Female
  • 18 to 38 years old
  • No criminal record in the Philippines and not restricted to leave the Philippines
  • No record of illegal stay in Korea
  • Not restricted from re-entering Korea or have completed the required period before going back to Korea
  • Able-bodied workers or physically and mentally fit to work
  • Ex-Korea workers who have record of illegal entry, illegal stay, overstay or run-away
  • Those with physical defects like amputated fingers and slip disc
  • Those who have previous cases of tuberculosis and color-blindnessm (Ishihara deficient)
  • Applicants who have difficulty learning the Korean language
  • Listening: 20 questions – 100 points, 25 minutes
  • Reading: 20 questions – 100 points, 25 minutes
  • Total: 40 questions – 200 points, 50 minutes
  • Testing Method: PBT (Paper-Based Test) & CBT (Computer-Based Test)
  • Test Structure: Multiple Choice Questions
  • Passing Score: Determined by HRD Korea

Applicants must register online with the POEA (www.poea.gov.ph) during given dates and provide several personal information including a scanned copy of passport bio-page and ID picture.

  • US$24 in peso to be paid on the schedule of online payment (e-Payment module)
  • Be at the examination site one hour before the test.
  • Submit your certificate of registration, proof of payment and passport.
  • Listen carefully to the instructions of the examination proctors.
  • Answer the examination questions carefully.
  • Mobile phones are not allowed inside the examination room.
  • Do not attempt to cheat or you will be disqualified from EPS – TOPIK.
  • The EPS-TOPIK is given continuously in 50 minutes without interval
